That was 2007, my elder daughter Siri with her husband Hari and two grand daughters Ananya and Shivani came to India to be with us for a month.At the time of their leaving I gave to my son in law a nice Tissot watch(costing around Rs 20,000) as a gift.
Now me and my wife Pramila came to U.S.A on 6th may to be with them in Minneapolis for three months.I have observed that Hari is not wearing the watch which i gave but some other watch which costs around Rs 2000/ . Out of curiosity i asked him what happened to the Tissot watch. He said a bit ruefully that it is not working.I was surprised and asked him why he did not get it checked .He said with a bit of hesitation that he is not having enough time to get it repaired.I told him on the night of 6th june the story of my wife saving every month Rs 20 In the year 1972 for a period of 11 moths to purchase a new HMT watch for me as at the time of my marriage in 1971 i was wearing a second hand watch given by my elder brother(P.P.Rao).I told him that it took 11 months of saving by my wife to purchase a new watch for me which i treasure even now ( the watch is still in working condition) though i do not wear it.
Today is 8th June their 12th wedding anniversary day and my son in law took the Tissot watch and got the old battery replaced and started wearing it as it started working.
